About

Last updated 1 decade, 1 year ago

Fortress Forever is a Source mod inspired by the earlier versions of the Team Fortress series (Team Fortress Classic and QuakeWorld Team Fortress). It was originally released in September of 2007. In October 2013, Fortress Forever was Greenlit by the Steam community, meaning that Fortress Forever will be distributed by Steam.

However, before releasing on Steam, Fortress Forever will be upgraded to the latest Source engine version. This is being done for the following reasons:

  • In order to take advantage of any of the Steamworks features that we have gained access to through Greenlight, we must be on the 2013 engine
  • In the process of upgrading the engine, we will be able to more easily rework core systems to make them more flexible and easier to work with in the future (things like weapons, classes, teams, buildables, the HUD, etc)
  • FF is long overdue for an engine upgrade

Fortress Forever is, and will continue to be:

  • Totally free
  • Fast paced, with team- and class-based gameplay
  • Faithful to the spirit of Team Fortress Classic (TFC) and QuakeWorld Team Fortress (QWTF), meaning Fortress Forever includes offhand grenades, bunnyhopping, etc

FAQ

Is the engine upgrade necessary?

Yes. In order to take advantage of any of the Steamworks features that we have gained access to through Greenlight, we must move to the 2013 engine.

When will the upgrade be finished?

An estimate is very hard to give at the moment. However, we plan to provide early access to the alpha version as it is being worked on.
